Thanks to Professor Sen for this informative article.
We hear that due to adoption of better chemical technology it is now possible to greatly enhance the efficiency of the solar cells…there are expectation all over that due to its consequent lower cost of production and unlimited source, use of solar energy is in near future going to outpace that of any other type of energy.
As per news agency reports India is also planning to take advantage of this new development which Prof Sen must be aware about.Could we request Prof. Sen,through your journal, time and health permitting,to look into the desirability & feasibility of India going allout for Solar energy and gradually come out from use of non-renewable fossil based energies and also not so safe nuclear energy.
    Wishing Prof.Sen all the best.

Thanks for your query. Indeed, the improvement of efficiency of solar PV-cells during the last decade ( 40% has been achieved in the laboratory) has made the use of solar PV-modules an attractive proposition in our combat with climate change. Globally, in many countries, Wind and Solar power have made and are making considerable inroads. For India, till today we do not have much wind to exploit (though i feel that possibilities with off-shore wind have not yet been properly studied. Solar power is definitely in favour in India. Let us look forward.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Dipak , and through you, the same with Love to all my students.
      … Sankar Sen
